“I am used to making spaceship or side-scrolling games, so I thought about making a top-down game like Zelda in 2D. I thought it would open up interesting possibilities to combine with the theme of indigenous peoples.” – José Carlos
In this story, a native village faced a great famine and a decree was made by the chief that new born children would have to be sacrificed. Though one day the chief's daughter brought a son into the world and the chief was forced to sacrifice his own grandson. Lost in her grief, one night her son’s spirit brought her to the base of a tree – an Açaí Palm. When she was found the next morning she had passed away, but her fixed gaze led her tribe to discover the nutritious fruits.

This game was created by a team in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, where soins – that’s marmosets – can be seen climbing on the power poles. For this team, creating this game has opened a window of opportunity to show the world – and World of Us – an authentic tale from Brazil.

The team that created the game first learned about the myth in 2022 at a GameJam event. Açaí is now a widely marketed product and has won the hearts of Brazilians and those across the world but many don’t know the myths it lived in before.
