Have you ever tried gaming as a way to support nature? Well, if that sounds like something you might be interested in, then you might want to know more about the Green Game Jam 2025.
In their own words, they are an annual challenge where game studios are invited to implement more environmentally themed content into their games to empower players to take action for the environment whilst playing.
For 2025, the message is simple and clear: we need nature. And as big fans of nature here at World of Us HQ we couldn't miss the chance to get involved. We brought our friends the Congolese Olive Ridley Turtles into the World of Us game, inviting children in Acre, Brazil to lend them a helping hand in getting to the shoreline – by gently flipping them off their backs.
“Games like World of Us are able to give children the chance to experience the power and beauty of nature beyond their immediate surroundings – while also showing that what exists in faraway places may not be so different from what’s in their own backyards. It creates a sense of extended belonging, making nature feel both shared and worth protecting together.” That lovely quote comes from Marcela Zanon – Our Head of Community Engagement and Events – who was fortunate enough to get to meet and interact with the young players in Acre as they discovered our latest Green Game Jam addition. “By framing it as an adventure, the game invites exploration, learning, and storytelling in a way that stays with them long after the screen is off. It’s through this kind of play that deeper reflection and real-world care can begin to take root.”
Working closely with real sanctuaries to understand the challenges they face is only part of our game development process. We also make sure to put our gameplay to the test with the very audience we hope to inspire most – young players from across the globe. “What stayed with me most from this trip wasn’t a single quote, but the way they’d shout to their friends to come join them on the island to help. They’d explain how to get there, and together they’d flip the turtles as a team. And they made sure that no turtle was left. That spontaneous sense of community – of protecting nature not alone, but collectively – was incredibly moving. It felt like a glimpse of the world we’re trying to build.”
If you’ve made it this far, then it's pretty likely you also care about nature. And, if we’re right about that, you should take part in the All In For Nature campaign to help emphasize the importance of having nature's gems better protected for a greener future.
